Default Blue paint problems

I've got a denim blue on order and was expecting delivery late October due the August factory shutdown. So being the impatient person I am, we went to the "other" dealer here in Maine just to check on availability (they already told me once that their allocations for the year are sold but what the hey, so I asked again.)
Anyway the sales manager there told me that he just received notice that the factory is stopping production on denim blue until after August due to paint problems and ONLY silver and black will be produced until they straighten it out. I guess it's water based paint problem or maybe just a line of BS. Anyway, they checked the port and they'll have a silver available 1st week in July. Now they could sell this silver a dozen times over so I really don't think that the story was just to get me to plunk down a deposit (I did though!) So I am anxiously awaiting a silver in a couple of weeks instead of a blue in a few months that might not have arrived by the time snow flies up here : )
Anybody hear about paint problems on denim blue?

News to me, and mine looks great. Did the sales manager elaborate on the problem?

he is probably giving u a line whenever you order a car get the vin number as soon as it is produced so as to protect yourself from having the original vehicle you ordered become someone elses car.

No. He just said that a bulletin from Audi crossed his desk two days ago that said there is a problem and blue would not be shipping until late fall.
Bummer since we wanted blue but we get silver NEXT WEEK!! My second choice of color but first choice for delivery. There were only 9 total allocated (and sold) for the entire state of Maine so "beggahs cont be chewsahs" : )
I guess I'll just have to trade up for a blue 225 next year ... oh, well

The Audi brand specialist lady I talk to sez that only a particular blue paint (also yellow) on the S4 has a problem. There are no problems with the TT's denim blue. I'm supposedly still on for Oct deliver of a TTQ...
-steve

I hope that's a rumor only. I have a Denim Blue 180Q with a Sept 30 deliver by date. My understanding is that the full range of colors will be available by my manufacture date (July) so I don't see why thet told you only silver and black would be available

In the German newsgroup, a gentleman today reported that 225 production had stepped up and that most of them were...Blue! If true, this certainly contradicts the "blue problems" rumor. Here is today's posting, translated (sort of).
Here also is TT drivers from Munich among us?
Jepp, two thirds of the week am I in Munich, nearby the Leopoldstrasse...
I have last weekend in a few hours approx. 15 TT drive or seen.
Nevertheless I would not call Munich really TT city. Completely in the opposite. With the enormous amounts at Z3, M Z3, M Coupé, M3, M5, 911er, SLK, SL, Ferrari, XKR, box boxster etc. is a TT after like before a very remarkable automobile. Are times recently between two 911er in sand-yielded driven, but the people angeglotzt only me stupidly. Audi has it since more jeher heavy in Munich. BMWs everywhere, also Mercedes runs very well, and Yuppies buy box boxster or 911er.
One had even the 22ër exhaust...
In Ingolstadt has little wondrous-proves the 22ër-Dichte in the last weeks strongly increased. Most were by the way blue...
Michael

Not trying to start a rumor; just passing on what the dealer told me. The issue, as it was explained to me, was that Audi's high standards dictate, and we all would have no less than, consistency, perfection, and longevity in the finish of such a great vehicle. Audi testing simulates years of exposure to the finish in the lab and the pearl finishes were not meeting their strict standards ... and they expected to remedy the problems during the August retool by changing the formula of the paint. Again, maybe just BS but the explanation was logical to me.
Don't shoot me, I'm just trying to pass on information to the group. (And I bought the silver TT that was available NOW and would have bought the blue if available irrespective of what the sales staff reported, logical or not.)

VW had a similar issue with yellow beetles last year. Production was delayed 6 mos. because they couldn't match the interior paint to the exterior color.
-- derek
