Default Buying a TT180 with or without four weel drive?

Hello all
As I'm planning to buy a TT180, I was wondering if I should buy the quatro version or not. I'n not a racecar driver or something like that, just a person that likes the car very much. I have never driven a sportscar before (only a fast bike). So i wonder could I save some money by buying the TT180 without the four weel drive?
In an English magazine (Top gear) there was a test ot the TT180 Quatro. There say that a sprint from 0 to 60 mph will take 8.7 seconds (AUDI claimes 0 62 mph in 7.4 seconds).
Well I have to wait until the beginning of next year to get my TT but I hope it's worth waiting.
Thanks for the info.
Yves from Belgium.
Default You will like the FWD

Based on what you say I think you will be more than happy with the FWD car. I would say get the AWD if you plan to hop up your car or if you drive in demanding winter conditions. I have a FWD model and love it. I also ride bikes and jump on the VFR if I what to go fast fast. JIM

Default TopGear is crazy...

The TT does not do 0-60 in 8.7 mph. If they got that result then they either don't know how to drive, had a defective TT (ie turbo out), or leftthe ASR on and it was slowing the car due to excessive wheel spin.
As I've mentioned earlier, the official 0-60 is 7.1 seconds (Audi claims 0-100 kph, but 100 kph is 62 mph. If you knock off those extra 2 mph you get 7.1). Most major magazines who have actually tested the FWD are claiming 6.8-6.9 seconds, so 8.7 is crazy.
As Jim said, the FWD handles like a dream. I personally would only buy Quattro if I drove in a lot of nasty weather. Still, I'll be anxious to read others' reviews of the Quattro, and I'd like to drive one myself.

Default I agree with Brad & Jim

The 180 FWD is an outstanding handling automobile. Real world acceleration is beyond reproach; the car is quick and highly refined. Very few cars on the road are as quick as the TT. Remember impromptu stoplight drag races is not a true measure of a car's ability. Over the distance of a city block a supercar would not significantly outdistance a minivan; however, in-gear elasticity is a better measure of a car's capabilities. The TT is very fast in this respect. It is interesting that the July '99 issue of the British magazine "EVO" faults the Honda S2000 for its lack of torque and, consequently, its elasticity. Off the racetrack the S2000 will be a chore to drive quickly.
As much as I enjoy automobiles and speed I must admit that 180 FWD is almost too fast and competent for mid-western roads. Reality is being stuck behind a behemoth SUV travelling 5-10 mph under the post speed.
John

I drove my TT in heavy rain for the first time this weekend. I was amazed at how well it handled in the wet. It sticks better than my 4x4 truck! As soon as the snow starts flying, the TT will stay in the garage, though. Ice+Performance Tires = Bad.

John
What do you mean by in-gear elasticity. I don't know much about driving techniques.
I saw once on the net a boostup kit that added 30 hp. I forgot were I saw it and can't find it back. What do you think about a boostup?
Cheers yves

Brad
I hope they are. I would say that 8.7 seconds is a little bit disappointing. Are there any revieuws on the net (from a not AUDI related writer or magazine) of those major magazines (it's not that I doubt about what you are saying, I just love to read about the TT, especially good news). Does the power decrease with the ASR system? So you can turn it off and on whenever you like?
I think I will go for the FWD TT because I'm probably not capable to explore its full power although it does rain a lot in Belgium. But if you drive calm in bad weather it will be OK I think.
Thanks for the info
Cheers Yves

Hello Jim
I think I will like it. I'm 99% sure I will buy the FWD TT.
Do you know any links on the net to magazines which tested the TT180?
I've got a Triumph T509. It is a streetfighter which kick ***. I like it very much but I must choose between the TT and my bike. But I know already which one to choose!
Thanks for the info
Cya Yves
