Default 225TT vs Porsche 911 C2/C4

I have to make a tough decision, a 225hp TT or a 911 C2/C4 around '90-92.
Has anyone out there with a TT owned a C2/C4? How do they compare? How does the TT compare with earlier SC/Carrera models? I currently have an '86 Carrera.
Thanks

Are you mad! Why the hell would you want a PC when you can have a TT. It's not a tough desision, quite easy in fact.
Don't you want something a little bit different, a little more stylish, a little more classy.
You see PCs everyday. Go for something a little different.
Now don't take offence, but do you wear white socks and loafers?
Currently driving a 1970 2.2E, with a 225Q on order and sometimes I think what am I gaining? Similar 2 door coupe, little (even less legroom) seats in the back for my kids (occasional riders only). Sure the 225 will go like a dart, stick to the road like **** to a blanket, it's quiet, comfortable, all mod cons etc. What I know I will miss is the huge tacho right in front hitting 4,000 rpm and then flicking around to 7,300 with the accompanying chainsaw scream from behind my head, the wheel jiggling in my hands over every detail in the road, looking out the screen and seeing the two mudguards (fenders to keep you Seppos happy)with lights atop,(not to mention being able to see extremely well in all the other directions),the little letterbox sunroof above my head...The TT is very German, clinical, humourless...maybe too good....Doesn't stop me devouring everything I can on the TT though!! Don't know how long the wait will be...at least I've got the 911 to keep me distracted till then..
Go to the link and "SEARCH FOR ARTICLES" TT as search criteria

http://www.drive.com.au/news/

I've owned a 73 911T 2.4 CIS and a 79 3.0 911Targa. I loved them both but sold to buy something with a few bedrooms and baths. Now on the fourth house and still missing the 911s especially the chainsaw in my ear and seeing my rear and out the side window when I get hard in to the corners (and my friends white knuckles when I hit second knowing I still have three more to go!) My TT arrives next week but won't replace the 911, just simply a different beast all together, refined and tamed. So my advise is KEEP 'EM BOTH and ENJOY. Life is short.
Default The 225TT will be nice but...

if you can find a really clean '93 C-2... especially an RS America (if you can find a 94 RS even better)...go for the Porsche. The 225TT will still be a full second slower 0-60, almost 40 less mph top end, have significantly less interior room, and even w/ quattro, not handle as well. The TT will be very easy to drive, have a great warranty and low cost of maintenence, have as good or better build quality (not counting a few rattles that seem to be in every Audi model) ...the TT will even be quick...but the electronic throttle (the TT) is still a long way from being as smooth and flexible as a mechanical throttle (Porsche). On the other hand, the used Porsche will cost as much as a new TT...on the other hand, "there is no substitute"...on the other hand the TT is a new design...on the other hand, the rear seat in the TT is absolutely usless for anything but parcels and legless and headless children, while the rear seat of a 911 can infact be used to hold at least one adult. I've got a TT 180 Quattro on order but if it doesn't knock my socks off, I will probably go used Porsche hunting. On the other hand...either way I'm getting very good machines...so I can't complain.

Maybe he would want a C2 because he is more interested in peformance than "style". My friend has a 91 C2 with a suspension and all the goodies and it is a nice car. Go kart like handling (yeah it is a bit stiff) and tons of power. I think the 0-60 time was about 5.6 stock. He paid about $26k U.S. and put about $5k in suspension and tires and wheels. If you are interested in doing some driving schools and flying around on some backroads the Porsche will certainly do it faster than the TT. It will certainly be a little more raw, nice stiff clutch and loud. But hey, that is like music when you have your foot in it. Bottom line is, one is a "roadster" and the other is a sports car.
KJK 91 M5 (also real loud)

In that case try the Subaru Impreza. Lots of "performance", pin-point handling, no style, and a lot less money.
I would definitely go with the 225TT. The early C4's are slugs to put it nicely. Less long-term headaches also.
Jason Dale
Audi(and Porsche) Technician
Ken Garff Motors
Provo, UT
