Alarm Questions

Is this unique to me or a "feature". When I get out of my car the alarm doesn't arm itself. If I don't press the LOCK button it stay unarmed forever. This is pretty dumb because it is easy to forget, especially since my Honda arms automatically.

Now, when I arm the alarm and I go to the car to unlock it, the lights flash but I get no audible confirmation that I unlocked the car. Again useless in the daytime. Lastly, my PANIC button only works from about 5 feet from the car. Not very useful when I am looking for my car at the mall. Although the crowd of people is usually a good way to find it.

I called the dealer today and they told me the arming mechanism for Audis is all manual, there is no autotmatic way to do it. Is this correct?

That is the way it works. Nothing wrong with your system.

Personally, I've never heard of an alarm that arms automatically when you just close the door. How do you disarm then? Do you always have to press unlock even when not locked? I think that would be pretty dumb. I think you'll just have to change your habits.

The audible disarm would be nice as would a louder audible arming confirmation.

Its pretty standard on after-market alarms...

...and usually gives you an additional discount on your insurance, since you cannot forget to turn it on. There's a time delay of like 30 seconds, and then it arms...and you disarm just like you do the TT's: hit the key fob. It disarms and unlocks.

As for louder arming, its personal preference. I like just light-flashing as an arming sign, and have to restrain myself from killing my neighbors with older Jettas and current Outbacks. Their arming sound is SEVERELY LOUD AND ANNOYING.
