Default Tested 180hp Q (thoughts)

I took this past weekend to take another test drive- this time 180hpQ. I have now test driven both the fwd and Quatto versions.

Thoughts: Having never driven a quattro before I did not know what to expect. "It corners like it's on rails" is no longer a Pretty Woman misplaced cliche to me. This was the most fun I have had behind the wheel. I am not speaking with much sports car experience however. I own a Toyota MR2 turbo with ECU, turbo and suspension upgrades. I though this was incredibly well balance car until the TTQ. Although my MR2 is significantly quicker straight ahead and noticably stiffer in turns the TT held the road like the car was connected to it and was therefore much faster through those turns.

Verdict: The TT was way more fun to drive. I can't wait for my 225hpQ to arrive

Down sides:
Stress fracture in windshield
Electrical problems that prohibited me from test driving for a week
Something loose in turbo connection (hi pitch blow and loss of power at top end)

This suff scares me since the car had only 8 miles on it. I hope Audi will have worked out the kinks by the time my 225HPQ arrives.
Thanks to everyone for all the great info.
See you on the roads, TTodd

Default Can you describe the turbo issue that you noted?

I don't know that what you describe is an actual problem...although I haven't heard (or heard of) a high pitched blowing noise. I think normally you can hear a faint whistle with the windows down, but that should be it.

As far as top end. There isn't likely to be as much as your MR2. Like you, I think my impressions of this engine were biased, since I am used to a car that breathes much better above 5000rpm. Once the TT 180 reaches its 5500rpm power peak, the starts to wheeze and drops power quickly... If you listen carefully, you begin to suspect that's simply because the engine can't move air much more quickly than that. The 180 is not tuned to take full advantage of the engine's five valves. I'm sure the 225 is much better.
