Default damn friend got an S2000

My friend just got an S2000 on impulse, knowing that my TT is looming ominously on the horizon. With 240hp, this his S2000 is practically commanding me to get a chip.

Does anyone know how the 225 compares, performance-wise to the Honda?

Default Good Taste, is it's own reward Hipcheck. No offense but, you can always lend him your TT....

when he gets tired of driving around with ear-plugs or get's sick of changing above 7000revs to get any of that much raved about torgue. There's a certain kick in getting power from the TT from around 2000revs and up. Even the superfast WRX which only kicks in at 4500 is known as a lag-mobile.

Just as a warning there are two minor recalls currently going on with the S2000

Default Yeah, after the thrill wears off AND he drives your TT, he'll wish he could trade...

And do trade...

Even the hard-core gearheads of the car magazines quickly tired of the Honda in daily driving. Can you imagine having to take off at redline at EVERY stoplight just to outpace the Neons and other more spritely econoboxes? To beat the Mustangs that'll no doubt be all up his bumper wanting to race, he'll have to stand on the gas-pedal w/ the tack hovering at 8500 rpm while he waits for the light to change (attracting all the wrong kind of attention). He may win on occasion, but to those Mustangs and Camaros can get to sixty off idle in less than 6 seconds.

You made the only choice reasonable, unless you have more than one car for commuting purposes.

Rest assured.

The Honda is still a lust magnet, though and deserves enthusiast attention.
That Honda is an impressive piece of engineering. Think of what fun it'll be out on cruises together! All eyes will be on you and your bud.

Have fun (both of you, summer is coming... women... beach... cantina/veranda restaurants). Life is good, no?

Personally, I think the S2000 is a car I would love to drive (all I can say is that I sat in one), I do not know if I would like to own one. FWIW staight line acceleration he will take you, if he drops his clutch at 8500rpm (amazing) and drives is well and hard. I don't value my TT by the number of "kill stories" I can tell my friends (I graduated from high school years ago), rather the passion I have for its unique styling and performance (between 2500 and 5500 rpm). To each his own...and my "own" is a TT.

Default Unfortunately, it doesn't quite work that way.

The S2000 is also geared lower, which translates to a larger multiplication of engine torque ultimately applied to the road - which is, of course, what counts.

Default still, reviewers have complained that..

the S2000 has very little torque in the low revs, making high shift points required to really enjoy the engine and have any real acceleration. Car and Driver did a test where they shifted at 5500 rpm, as someone might do in day-to-day driving with that car. The 0-60mph time was over 11 seconds. So, even with short gearing, lack of low end pull is what it is.

Two S2000 recalls out ; one for hood and one for steering. It's not just Audi.
