For those that are interested here is my stereo . . .
I have thrown together a pretty crude website, but the pictures are there. I still have to add the text and explain what is going on.
The only part of the site that is up and running is the Stereo Install.

Well, for those of you who have black TTs, I must say...bastards! Well, serves me right for wanting a 225!
So LarryTT, how much did this stereo end up costing? I'm past the point of being able to unorder the Bose, but I'm curious. My friend is a car stereo freak, so I wonder what he could do with an $1800 budget that the Audi folks couldn't =)

I started to install it and got a little frustrated when I couldn't get the wire down to the cig lighter. I had Chris finish the installation for me on that.
He epoxied the Radio Shack cig lighter into the Aluminum ring. I did this because I HATE the ashtray being open 24/7 with my cell phone plugged in.

I hate leaving the change holder open when using the 12V outlet as well. Fortunately, I have the full Nokia car kit for my 10-year-old fossil of a pocket cell phone. Good thing, since I can't even find batteries for it locally any more! One of these days, I'll actually finish wiring up the interface to the car.
I was just admiring the full-size outlet in your car, and thinking that it might be good for keeping my computer charger plugged in. VW/Audi haven't improved the lighter jack since 1995, and nothing that I have seems to stay put in it.
So, where did you get the hardware?????

It is a Radio Shack cigarette/utility adapter. It comes with a mounting bracket that was not used.
It was fitted in and epoxied into place. I know it ruined the aluminum ring, but who cares! I can get another one if needed!
I can tell you how to remove the button if you want.
