BASS reprogrammed on BOSE, now we're really shaking.....
Just had my Bose Concert (only radio available on 225Q's here in Oz, no other choice) reprogrammed at the dealer according to Jeffrey Sesslers post on 02/21/2000. Now the Bass and Treble go to +6 and -6 (why don't they go to 11? - Spinal Tap!!). The difference is HUGE, especially as I listen to a lot of reggae and Dub.
Like many, I was disappointed in the BOSE system, but now I'm very happy as I can adjust to suit my needs. With the BASS cranked up to +6 the rear view mirror vibrates, my sinus cavities tingle and you can feel the air being pulsed in front of the door speakers..I reckon the new setting 3 is the equivalent of where setting 5 used to be, ie I have heaps more range of settings, it's not just a "1" setting difference.
The Audi technician who reprogrammed was VERY impressed and I left him with the printout of Jeff's posting. I have yet to find a negative to reprogramming the Bose this way.

If it works it's hard to argue against it, but...
Radically tweaking the pre-amp EQ without negative side effects should work for low and medium output levels, but at "reggae and dub levels" I would think the power amps and speakers would be the limiting components. Isn't it possible that the actual effect you're hearing now is an attenuated mid-range in-between unchanged sound pressure levels for bass and treble, which is a much used EQ shape?

I'm no audiophile. I have more range of adjustment and I get to
"feel" the bass inside my body cavities, if I want "thinking music" I drop the bass and go for more mid range.
