Default Curb 1 - TT Wheel 0

Yes folks, I finally managed to do it. After pulling an all nighter to present a business plan to investors for the company I work for, I went back home and had to stop at the gate to put my access card in. Being half asleep, I got too close to a sidewalk that is 6'' high and nudged my front left wheel. Of course now the wheel looks like it was in a fight with a bear and the bear won unscathed.

Do any of the folks that have upgraded their wheel looking to sell one of your original 17" Avus style wheels?

Send me an email at juanjo@sprintmail.com. I will pay shipping etc...

Thanks, Juan

Default Get the wheel fixed!

Juan, I just had my tires changed on my car . . .11,500 miles on my 040 and they are shot! I put on Re730 and the installed scratched 3 of the 4 wheels! They are paying to have the wheels repaired next week. The normal charge is $125/wheel. They said they come back brand new!

Just a thought and much cheaper than buying a used/new wheel.<p><a href="http://registry.audiworld.com/audi/registry/details.asp?car=3285"><img SRC="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/AudiWorldPics/2000/ttsig.jpg" BORDER=0 alt="Click for Mods"></a>

Default I had mine done the other week - 20 Pounds ($30?)

The just skimmed the edge.

I was lucky though, 17" 5 spokes are roughly $400 each in UK.

Default Not sure if it is fixable

Since the scratch is on the middle of the spokes, not on the edge of the rims. When I clean the wheels tomorrow, I will take a pic and see what you think.

Thanks, Juan

Default Re: Where?

Simon, Who fixed it for you? I joined the dinged wheel club at Xmas (bad bad rim damage) and had to fork out for a new wheel. It's only a matter of time before I catch another one - besides they are picking up stone chips on their own! So before I get a large collection of rimmed wheels in my loft I should think of the cheap fixing option.

Default I will try and post pictures of my scratches . ..

The scratches are ALL around the wheel, perfect circle from the wheel machine! It is on the spokes about 1-2" from the edge of the rim. The Wheel/Tire shop said a good wheel repair place can fix ANY damage so long as the wheel is not cracked. He showed me a someone had that was bent, it was going to be repaired, except the wheel cracked too.

Good luck with it.<p><a href="http://registry.audiworld.com/audi/registry/details.asp?car=3285"><img SRC="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/AudiWorldPics/2000/ttsig.jpg" BORDER=0 alt="Click for Mods"></a>

Default Darenth Valley (Dartford - Kent)

I don't know where you live, but it's near Dartford in Kent - around Bluewater area.

The place is called Rimtec, it's nothing more than a shed really (cash only!). The dealer put me onto them. They did a great job.

They do the whole shooting match for 50 quid, which involves dipping the wheel in acid to remove the lacquer and paint, then they skim the edges, sand it and re-paint and laquer. I think it takes a few days. Whitehouse Audi use them.

I went there with a kerbed polished alloy - they skimmed the edge and it was back on in 15 mins. I can only do each wheel once or twice though or else the lip on the wheel will disappear! They cannot do any full treatment on polished alloys though.

I also found another place further out in Kent, but never used them.

Email me if you want more details.
