Default 2001 225 Coupe pricing?

Greetings,

I'm new to the list, and have a quick question about pricing. I have done my research, and have found through www.audi.com that a fully loaded (minus cell phone) 180 Coupe *should* run me about $35k before tax, title, registration, etc. I called one of my local Audi dealers, and have been told by him that he has two used 180's with Quattro on the lot (4k miles each) for $38.5k, which I expect is due to the demand on these cars. I'm contemplating just laying down the deposit on a 2001 225 Coupe now, so I'm higher up on the waiting list. My big question though, is does anyone have any idea how much these puppies are going to cost? I'd rather wait if it will be comparable to Audi's official recommended price (obviously a bit higher).

I understand it is pretty difficult to find a 2000 180 now that is new, and I refuse to by a used car, especially for $4k more than list price. Further, I'm not a rag-top kind of guy, and prefer a coupe in almost all situations, so it looks like my only option is to go with the 2001 225. However, I am right on the border with the price currently, I can afford $36k or less (before tax/title/etc), but anything more than that and I'm over my budget (still have a few months left on my 911 payment anyways).

My main purpose for this is to get a NICE, reliable, yet sporty replacement for my current daily driver, a 1990 ford probe (piece of garbage). I've been eyeing Audi the entire time I've been looking, and have pretty much narrowed it down to a TT, depending on price. I'd rather not back off and get an A4 or something (which really wouldn't be much less in price anyways). The dealer I spoke with said he had no information on price, and that a 1000$ deposit (standard I think) secures me a spot in line, which incidentally, would be 2nd in line at this particular dealership.

I understand that the 1000$ is refundable if I find I can't afford the car once it comes in, but that's a lot of wasted interest over the next 6 months (comes to around $30, but still, wasted cash). I'm just trying to get a feel for what kind of cost I'm looking at, if it'll be close to the current Coupe, or if it'll be more in the Boxter price range.

Thank you very much for any input, suggestions, or help. Further, I'm new to the Audi world, and my experience thus far is with an Audi dealership in Aurora, Illinois (Farnsworth Ave, don't have the name handy), and would also welcome with open arms suggestions of *good* dealerships in the Chicagoland area.

Please CC: any responses (if possible) via e-mail (listed below) due to my inability to monitor this newsboard frequently.

Thank you very much.
Chris Lawrence

I guess I'm getting confused now. I was told by my dealer that the 225HP Coupe was not going to be shipping until October of 2000, yet I keep hearing people say they're out there already. I don't know if this dealer is just trying to get me to buy the 2000 model he has on his lot or what. Perhaps I have a bit more research to do.

Cheers,
Chris Lawrence

Default Dealer is full of it (and rhymes with spit)

The 225Q is shipping now. I think the earliest shipment was March of this year. Now, your dealer might only be able to get you one by Oct but that is a different problem.

MSRP for a 225Q w/ Bose + Premium (no nav, no cell) should be about $38,950 (or very close).

Figure in tax and all of that and you are talking $42K without blinking.

Default Shipments of 225Q coupes

Your dealer may be confusing you with different dates related to this car.

(1) Official North American Release - the 225 car has not officially been released to North America, but several forum members have been able to get their pre-ordered cars prior to the release. The official release of the 225 cars is in May. I got on a waiting list in May '99. My car was ordered in Apr 2000 and I expect to take delivery in July 2000.

(2) Ordering & Delivery from factory. If you are not on a waitlist and want this car, it will probably take you between 6 months to 1 year to get one. However, you can call around to other dealers and see what they have available. The colors and options may not be a perfect fit, but you may be able to get a car now. All Audi TTs coming into the country "belong" to someone, but people are dropping off of waiting lists and cars are available. You may have to drive to another state to get the car you want.

Good Luck.

Default Doesn't this make you want to get a 225 instead?

I went through the same process before ordering a few weeks ago. The 180 with the wheels, xenons, and quattro came in about $1,300 shy of the price of the 225, which includes all those things. I thought it was a no-brainer. $36,100. I don't get the Bose upgrade, but that's all I'll miss.

By the way, I ordered the car I wanted at MSRP, $500 refundable deposit, expected delivery late July.

Don't know about Texas, but in the Northeast 225 TT coupes are (or were last week) available. Ours was not ordered in advance. It was on the lot and we bought it. End of story.

You mention in another post that you are in Chicagoland. What dealer is giving this info?

DID YOU HAVE TO PAY OVER MSRP? I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THE DLRS HERE IN L.A. TO AT LEAST DROP THE PRICES TO MSRP, HOWEVER THESE GREEDY SALESMEN WANT 5K OVER FOR THE COUPE AND 10K OVER FOR THE ROASTERS. WHAT A RIP OFF! ANOTHER DLR WANTED TO SELL A MOMO WHEELS PACKAGE FOR 6K FOR WHICH YOU GET 17" MOMO ALLOYS ON YOUR OEM TIRES! THE BLEEDING CONTINUES, PLEASE LET ME KNOW.
