Car Wash...
Is a touchless or softcloth wash out of the question for a TT with 17/18s?
I remember people had problems with the wheel track used in most car washing systems.
I know I should hand wash it, but I don't have anywhere (in my area) that I can do it.

A true touchless w/o a track
Will not cause any probs... I have done that to my TTQ and it did a surprisingly good job of it.<p><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/AudiWorldPics/2000/akracttq.jpg" border="0">

IMO, you always roll the dice
Roommate's S4 made it through one of them with no problems, and then got both driver's side wheels severely scratched. Their wheels are the same type of profile as TT's, in that the wheel sticks out beyond the tire...and therefore are suceptible to damage.
I think LarryTT was mentioning that he knew of a carwash with teflon covered guides...but I would personally think those would be few and far between.
Don't know what to tell you. I take my BMW to the carwash (the same one that scratched the S4 wheels) because the wheels are scratched up anyhow already, and the tires stick out far enough. My TT will either be washed at the dealership (free washes on saturdays!!!), or I'll bop down to my brother's house and wash it in his garage, or I'll take it to the local "bays with pressure washers" place...and use my own car wash soap n a bucket.

the one that I used...
one simply drove in on a flat floor, stopped when the red light came on and the apparatus moved around the car.. nothing, other than water and air ever touched it.<p><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/AudiWorldPics/2000/akracttq.jpg" border="0">
