Default Best roads survey

Spring has arrived and it is time to search for the best roads for our TTs. I'm in New Jersey and can't recommend very much here (the traffic density is amazingly high so touring is best left to the very early morning hours on weekends).

Here are some of my all time favorite drives ...

- Utah highway 12 from Panguitch to Torrey - awesome canyonds and color

- Montana: (I grew up there) US 212 - the Beartooth Highway - amazing views. Try it in late May or early June.

- Montana: "Going to the Sun" going across the park towards the East. Continuing down 89 and encountering the "big sky" rather suddenly.

- NJ: one of the best rides is NJ 29 North of Trenton.

NY: NY 10 in the Fall. I first encountered this one 20 years ago as a grad student who had never seen an Eastern Fall.

VT: VT 100.Another wonder in the Fall

____

OK - what are your favorites?

Default No. 1 alltime = Carmel to Big Sir (minus Ma & Pa Kettle and the RVs).

You MUST do this road o/s tourist season.
00' 180QC, Dead Stock (except EPROM, exhaust & clear film paint protector)

Durango to Ouray, Colorado on the Million Dollar Highway is hard to beat.

Default I'll second Going to the Sun Highway, but....

my all time favorite road is Utah 128, following the Colorado River between Cisco (@I-70) and Moab. Had my first Quattro experience on that road in winter about 18 years ago, and I've gone out of my way to drive it ever since. Hope to take the TT there this summer. Only bummer is that they don't let you drive over the old wood suspension bridge anymore. That was exciting!

The road up (and down) Mt. Washington (NH) could be fun in a TT as well!

Default one in Cali, one in MA/NY

I'll say 17, going from Santa Cruz to Silicon Valley, with its windy turns and beautiful scenery, and there was this amazing stretch from W. Mass into New York, somewhere before Troy, where you go from full speed down to 10 on a hairpin turn...

there's another great road going from Santa Cruz to Gilroy, but I can't remember which one it is.

hm, and Mulholland in L.A., come to think of it =)

The Palisades Parkway heading up to West Point isn't far from you.

Default My list...

- Route 87 up towards Lake George in NY. Great long stretches of empty road bordered by trees.

- Route 2 between NY/MA - An amazing road as it goes up and over two mountains. Up and down, around and around, tight turns, huge drop offs and the only real "HAIR PIN TURN" I have ever come across. About 10 miles of pure joy. Also no place for cops.

AHH...It has been so long.....

Default Thanks! I could not remember what that road was called. Did it in my Paseo and

scared the crap out of my best bud. In a TT with real tires and no body roll: heaven.
Ivan
