I think it sounds decent, but is overpriced. What are you really getting for your $1,200? A cd changer, different amp, slightly upgraded speakers. It seems like they could do more for the dough.

However, it intregrates nicely with the driver info display, the sound is acceptable, and you don't have to worry about some monkey ripping apart your TT.

I've had the Bose in both TTs, and given the choice (which I didn't have BTW), I'd probably order it again. HOWEVER, I would call upon Audi to consider upgrading this stereo and/or reducing the price.

Also, I would request that Audi consider getting rid of that outdated analog cell phone that few seem to want. Since Audi works with Motorola products, why not pre-wire the TT for a digital StarTac phone, and include a sexy, less visually obtrusive phone holder which intregrates into the display and speakers. I personally GUARANTEE that you will sell a lot more phones. Hell, you don't even have to offer the phone. Just set it up for the Star Tac and you could probably charge a few hundred bucks (I would have paid it).

Audi will not endorse Motorola since Nokia are ahead in the market for GSM/G3 /WAP

Default $400 option in Europe is ok to pay. but then we pay more anyway on list.

which is always amazing that we can build a car in Ingoldstadt, ship to US and make money by selling at approx 35% less than in euro currencies.

Still that's market forces for you.

Default IMHO, Bose is WAY too boomy...

This is just two peoples' opinion (myself and my wife), but we find the bass with the Bose FAR too boomy, making the TT sound like a "thump" car. We find that we have to turn the bass down to -4 or so to even make it listenable, which largely defeats the purpose of spending the extra $1200.

Instead, both in her 98 A41.8TQ and my upcoming 225Q we've opted to go with the Concert radio and have the dealer add the CD Changer. From what I understand it will still have the radio display integrated with the trip computer, and given our experiences with her A4 it will sound better and cost about $700 less...

Default Depends what music you listen to....

I am an obsessive audiophile and recommend that the only way you can figure out if it is worth the money or not is to go to your dealer and audition it. Take a load of your own CDs and give them a listen. You know what your CDs should sound like, and how you want them to sound.

Personally I love the Bose, and find the bass to be very warm, and perfectly suited to my kind of music (hip hop, big beat type stuff), although I have the roadster which has different speaker config to the coupe. Having said that, don't listen to other people's opinions, as everyone has different ears. Get down the dealer, form your own opinion, and don't be frightened to TURN IT UP!!

Good luck
Steve

Default Bose in the Roadster is the worst thing about the car

My TTR225 is just a dream but the BOSE stereo upgrade is less than it should be. The bass is set up for the low-rider boombox set and there is no depth to the midrange. The Bose might be acceptable as the stock system but it is a very weak addition as an upgrade and quite disappointing considering the beautiful execution of the rest of the car.

Audi needs to pay attention here.

Default From a home theater perspective....

If you've ever participated in any home theater newsgroup, you will find that many a person feels that the Bose home theater speakers are nothing other than demon spawn or worse....

It's pretty funny, they sure get riled up over those little cube speakers. I had them for a few years, and have since gone to Klipsch inside the home stuff.

But I ordered the Bose package, more for the six disc changer than anything. I hate upgrading car stereos, comes from my teenage years when this kid I knew upgraded his all the time, but upgraded is a relative thing. He bought Audiovox and Realistic all the time from wal-mart.
Tom Boucher
