Default The coilovers have a little farther-reaching benefit than even I woulda thought...

Made some G-tech runs today and discovered three things:1. that I removed another .25 seconds off my 0-60 average times (with nothing other than the coilovers) 2. That the wheel-hop I was experiencing sometimes when coming off the line hard is totally and completely gone. 3. That the car puts down traction a LOT better than with the old shocks.

My last g-techs were giving me in the 5.7-5.8 ranges a month ago. Today it was 20 degrees warmer out and I'm turning mid 5's (5.52-5.70). Considering how much warmer it was, the tires were biting better but the intercooler wasn't able to work as well. Offsetting factors and I still turned average times a quarter-second faster than the last time I measured. Gotta be the suspension. Today out of 16 runs I only had one run of over 6.0 (6.14) seconds and one run of 5.28. Threw them both out.

When you get on it hard off the line, the car no longer squats in the rear, unloading the front and making it lighter (where all the traction is in a FWD TT). And the lack of wheel-hop is amazing. Sometimes before I had to blow off more timed runs than I recorded because my front wheels would hop severely. I never experienced that even once today. Every run was recorded and for effect. In retrospect I havent experienced wheel-hop since I put the coilovers on. Funny how you forget little annoyances like that then suddenly wonder a few days later "where'd the wheel-hop go?"

This weekend I plan on testing how many G's I can pull. (I already know it'll pull enough to throw me out of my seat with race tires and no harness). So guess what? Yep... a 3" wide nylon strap around and under the seat and me to keep me in the chair. The Recaro SPG-A carbon fibre/kevlar shells are just around the corner (gotta figger out what to do about the airbags in the seats, more aptly the associated electronics). Then Larry's guy should have a finished harness bar and I can get the REAL restraints in.

So many projects... so little time

What revs do you consistently use to get off line fast MNE? how is your clutch holding out?

Default Not as many as one might think....

I've experimented with launches all over the place but have settled into a 42-4500 launch with a rapid let-off rather than a side-step of the clutch or the tires will spin too much. Also I have to bleed the front tires down to 20-24psi to hook up with the pavement and I overinflate the rears to 36psi for the diminished rolling resistence. Seems 6600 rpms is the place to shift tho I'm hitting 60 at the top of 2nd gear between 6800 & 7k rather than shifting again into third at 6600.

And I do think the G-tech reads between .15 and .2 seconds "optimistic" since I did get accurate info with the G-tech versus some paid for timed runs at the drag strip last year in a side-by-side situation with two TT's... my FWD and my firends Q.

Another plus with the suspension is the consistency of the timed runs yeaterday. With the lack of rear squatting the G-tech is MUCH more accurate and willing to offer consecutive runs that are closer-spaced time-wise. That is to say the consistency and spread between consecutive times is down by a margin of nearly 75%. Since that device is so prone to errors when its in anything other than a horizontal plane its now able to stay much closer to that and the readings stabilize as a result. Got into some serious number-crunching last night. Things like "standard deviation", "mean average deviation", "aggregates" & averages and the like. There is no doubt this car is faster and more consistent in its 0-60 times with this suspension... EVEN in a straight line. Dem's duh facts!
