:^) :^) :^) :^) - silly first drive story
The funny thing is I was at first quite unimpressed. My dealer drives the car out and its still covered with all of the white transport film and my wife's looking at it with that face I can read too well. I'm thinking, crap, I don't care, I love this color (desert green). I ask my dealer, how do you want to do this drive? He says he doesn't need to tell us anything and to go ahead and take it for a ride.
So I feel around the gearbox, put it in "first" and pull it out of the lot. I was chunky on the clutch but figured that it was because I'd been driving my Tacoma for a year. I was actually quite unimpresssed with the initial acceleration, but gave it lots of gas until I got some boost as the RPM's got up and said to my wife "not bad". We pull up to a light and I put it back into first and promptly stall it out when the light turned green. This elicited some honks from the Neon behind me. My wife leans forward and says: are you sure your in first? I move the shifter over to what I think is reverse, give it a touch of gas and it moves forward. Being somewhat embarrassed over stalling out in front of a Neon, I floor it. My wife is still leaning forward looking at the shifter as turbo rush hits and her head snaps back while she exclamates 'holy f**** s***'
Needless to say that I now know you need to push the shifter down to get into reverse! The somewhat dissapointing 1st half mile was of course done in gears 3-6.
I did get a good feel for some understeer tonight. Not it the TT, but when I drove out of the lot and hit the 1st 90 degree turn at a light in my wife's A4 Avant - I almost plowed into the other lane after not giving it enough lock! The drive to the station in my truck tommorrow morning should be even more interesting!!
.... and after removing some film, she loves the green!!
