Amazing how much smoother these engines run when using a non-defective coolant temp sensor...
It's been about a week and a half since they changed the sensor. Made no difference in soot accumulation on the tail pipe (I'm still puzzled by that), but it looks like I'm now getting better fuel economy.
The trip computer is reading 19.8mpg right now - and so far, I've done nothing but in-traffic commuting and around town driving. (This is awesome, considering that I'm used to 15-17 in town/traffic). I can't wait to try a highway trip.
The engine is running much more smoothly too - no more vibrating the steering wheel at idle. And it's really, really nice to be able to crank up the CD player and not hear morse code and whining. It sounds soooo much better now!
I'm not going to jinx myself (or the car) any futher. Suffice it to say that I actually enjoyed my drive in this morning - and I was sitting in traffic for an hour and a half.
