Default Where are the real photo's = Signatures & Digi-pictures show as [pic] ..more

Unfortunately I've had to stop reading posts from some of the contributors. These digi-picture signatures are a pain in the ... .

Let me explain before you send me up in flames.

I really enjoy surfing the site reading forum contributions and like to dial in to the pictures (read as real pictures of owners cars and options). Unfortunately these "cute" digi images keep showing up in corespondence of "little" significance. Why should I have to wait on load time for this vanity stuff. The first time I look at the post its' OK ..."look what this guy did". By the second or third pass its' gotten real real old.

Look at the forum today and see how few pictures there really are. Can't this be reclassified?

Opinions .......?

Default Re: Signatures & Digi-pictures show as [pic]

Just finished surveying the entire page. With the exception of one individual (Raven TT), no one with a signature picture has the [pic] in the tag line. This individual does, because he is not posting a true signature picture; he's using the picture poster to do this, and for the life of me I do not know why. Actual signature pictures do not cause [pic] to be posted in the tag line.<p><a href="http://registry.audiworld.com/audi/registry/details.asp?car=3177"><img src="http://members.home.net/cmelick/audipics/sig4.jpg" border="0" alt="Click Image to View Registry Information"></a>

Default Also...

Even though I, like Cliff, usually access the forum via a high-speed connection, at times, I also access it via a fairly slow modem. From my experience, these signature pics load quite rapidly due to their small size. So, if you are having to wait for them to load, you might take a hard look at the quality of your internet service provider.<p><img src="http://home.san.rr.com/winefinds/1.jpg" border="0">

Unless your browser cache is turned off, you probably aren't downloading many of them over and over

Default Another note ... Some messages take longer to load due to the banner ad that accompanies it...

Most of the time you are not going to wait for a message (the text in the body) to appear because of a signature pic (one that properly used the Signature Feature from Registered User preferences anyway). You are waiting for the banner add above it to cache and <u>that's</u> what causes the delay.
In talking to Johannes -- the creator of the forum software used here at AudiWorld -- banner ads load first, then the message, along with any images contained in the body of the message using nested HTML or the Optional Image URL feature, then the signaturre , regardless of whether it has an pic or not.

And ... like HokieTT said, as soon as you've viewed a person's sig image it is cached, and unless you have some quirky browser prefs setup, you will not have to wait for it to load again when viewing other posts from that person.<p><a href="http://registry.audiworld.com/audi/registry/details.asp?car=909"><img SRC="http://www.planet42.net/images/sig_pic.gif" ALT="Rob O" BORDER=0></a>
