Default Driving instructions for the TT (long)

I have test droven the 180 quattro coupe and fwd roadster. I must admit that if you try to slam on the accelerator below 2500 rpm you are going to feel like a turtle. Once above that range - you finally move and the rpm starts to shoot up. When on the highway, I have tried to pass cars in 5th gear and the car just didn't get the hint. I felt like I was driving my Celica. However, if you downshift, then no problems. Also, while on the highway the TT just sounds better in fourth vs. fifth going 60 mph or so. The fifth gear seems more useful in the 80 mph range. Anyone have similar experiences or otherwise?

Default Turbo starts to help you along at 1850 RPM's. Your 2500rpm figure is about ...

the right place for the feeling in the seat of your pants. I have learned to drive with the tach in the sweet spot between 2500 and 5500 for the most satisfying experience.<p>Ivan

Default Me too! In 6th gear in a 225 at 60 mph...

there is no need to downshift at all! What a satisfying ride. Absolutely no turbo lag at this speed. I think Audi chose the final drive gear ratios very well. This car continues to make my Mustang GT feel like a slug. I wonder what was up w/ that car?

I think that the 180 is less peaky that the 225, so should be pretty darn satisfying in top gear (so long as you're not creeping along at 40 mph).

Gotta admit, though, there is a distinct "zone of negativity" in which all bets for acceleration are off. Like when you granny shift, THEN decide that you wanna gun it....

Ashma, I sincerely hope that you decide to get a TT. You will not regret it! Join the family.

Thanks Eric. I have placed a deposit on a 180 fwd roadster at the end of March. However, I don't expect to get it until late August or Sept. I have to live vicariously through all of your experiences in the meantime.
