Radio's Fade Feature

Radio's Fade Feature
What does it mean when the Fade feature on the radio reads off? How do I go about adjusting it? The balance seems to work fine (L to R), but the Fade just reads off. Radio manual is no help, anyone out there know how to turn it on?

Fade feature is disabled if you have the Bose in a TTC.
