If you need any rear seat space, go for the BMW. If you really want something with a rear seat in a convert, go for the BMW.
I'm lucky -- there are only two of us and the 225 Coupe is perfect for our needs. An added benefit is that I don't have to take everyone along when we go out for lunch:-)
In any event you should go to the respective dealers and try both. They are very different cars!

bottom line: how tall is your wife?
Although kids under 4'11" fit fine in the back seat, to give them any leg room at all, the front seat has to be pushed fairly forward. If your wife is tall, it probably won't work. My wife is 5'2" and my 4 year old son fit fine. Best bet is to take your family along for a test drive.

Keep in mind you can disable the passenger-side airbag
Audi thoughtfully includes a cutoff switch in the glove compartment, so kids can ride up front. I have a spouse, a 3-year old and an 8-year old, and a 225 coupe on the way.
