Default O/T computer questions 1 about Netscape and a few others.... Larry?

1)Larry (and others), I noticed your dislike for Netscape in another thread. I just received my Comcast@home package today and I noticed it came with Netscape. Any suggestions for another browser or version I should be using?

2) Like I said, I received all my stuff for cable hookup today and I was wondering.... Do you think I should uninstall everything related to my old *dial-up* and browser before I install all of the new software or does it not really matter?

Thanks for the info everybody

I prefer Netscape vs Internet Exploder.

Default Netscape 4.73 is stable for me.... 98@home/NT@work..... stay far far away from NS 6...

You do not need to install any of the s/w that came with your package.... just set your TCP up the way direceted (static IC/DHCP) and point your news and email readers to the proper server (typically news and mail) and you should be good to go. I never installed any of the s/w that came with my @home service.... much to the dismay of the service reps....

Default NS6 = Bad News

From a development perspective I can tell you that we have found numerous problems with Netscape 6. Almost to the point of me wanting to shoot myself. Everything from Javascript to SSL. While some problems were corrected in the latest 6 release, I think I would stay away.
If it came with Netscape 4 that should be fine.

Personally, I use IE and love it. I'm one of those few people who love Microsoft's stuff, particularily their development tools.

Default Browsers, OS's, another religous war ;)

Netscape 4.76 works better for me that IE - good friends tell me the opposite. I think it's them

Default IE is the better software, has been for years now. Lower memory footprint, less crashes and...

much more compatable than netscape. THis is in windows or on the mac. You'll find that more people badmouth IE because it comes from microsoft, not because netscape is better. It simply is not. IE = Internet explorer
just in case you weren't aware.

as for your other questions. No, you do not need to install your dialup stuff. Just follow the instructions that came with your cable. It will be a very simple install.

Default You aren't the only one. MS makes good software, that's why they win.

If netscape hadn't started dragging their feet they would still be a viable contender in the browser software market instead of an afterthought.
