Rear end knocking noise from H&R Coilover...

Default Rear end knocking noise from H&R Coilover...

When starting off I hear knocking from the rear coilovers. After I'm underway it's gone or I can't hear it. I'm told that it's the coilovers adjusting themselves and it's very common and normal. Anyone experienced the same?

Default Either the spring is turning and not seated correctly..or you have coilbind

To get rid of coilbind...go down to your local RadioShack store...get some wire loom..and install about 12-15 inches of the stuff around the individual coils of the springs. Do this on both sides of the car. Having this plastic stuff in between the springs will lessen the sound of spring coils "binding" on each other on compression.

The first series of H&R coilover was super noisy. The third series is a distinct improvement, and there is much less noise.

If you don't have the most recent 3rd generation rear springs, you might talk to H&R. I doubt that they'll completely eliminate all noise, but for me, they improved things substantially.

Default i get a knocking noise from the rear as well..

always have since it got cold, and i have no coilovers.. what audi said it was is the plastic fuel tank pressurizing and de-pressurizing (actually i can hear a simulataneous knock coming from other locations in the car when it's really cold)..

i was told this is normal and shouldn't happen in warm weather (and it doesn't.)

coilbind is a problem. If your getting coil bind then you have reached the full compression of the spring and all the coils are squashed together (in simple terms) IE there is no space between them anymore and the spring cannot compress anymore.

This is a problem! coil bind is not good... it means the spring you are using is too soft to support the car throughout the suspensions range.

I remember reading that H&R has just released a third or fourth generation spring that solves this problem
