They had used some treated wood from a supplier that didn't meet standards, and the windows rotted in the process. Cost them hundreds of millions to fix this.
The state had to garrantee some debts and loans to keep them a float.
Their new windows are OK, but..
Personally, I would not buy any window for a new house that isn't vinyl, or vinyl-clad, and I'd look at Pella or Anderson. I know, they are more money, but I have a 9 year old home, that has cheap wooden-framed windows, and they really suck.
I have to paint the outsides every year, and the inside varnished parts get blistered from water and frost in the winter.
