OT: Got hit with my first "rolling blackout" yesterday...
The state of California has begun rolling blackouts due to the energy crisis here. Yesterday, they shut me down for about an hour. It really sucks, as there is essentially no warning. Folks are getting stuck in elevators, and sorted misc other inconveniences.
I hope this ends soon. It's a pain resetting every clock in the house.

OH gawd, what do all the computer people do?
Does anyone know what happens when you shut off a server with thousands of service hours and 10,000 RPM drives by the dozen and leave it off for an hour?
Hard drive freeze. THey won't spin again. "Hello, Compaq I need 12 32GB SCSI hot-swap drives, pleez."
Trust me, I've done it. OK, I saved most of the drives by removing them and smacking them with the back of my hand but...

What!? Started from a temperature change head freeze?
I am not at all sure I know what you are referring to. I was talking about the hard drives freezing up since they were running and running hot, and when they cool things expand and stick. What kind of software would fix that?
