Default Another silly question from an ignorant TT owner...

OK, is my TT (2000 Quattro coupe) all prewired for a CD player? Can I just go to my dealer and buy a CD player and pop it in myself or do I need to have those guys do it? The guy at the parts department of my dealership is not 100% sure if a 2000 TT comes prewired for the player or not.

Thanks!

Default I would go woith an aftermarket changer..

thinka few people have done that here.

a 9 or 12 disk changer would be great!

And, it may cost less than the OEM unit.

Just a thought.

Default He can't do that unless he changes his receiver (more)

unless he wants to operate it through his FM signal, which will sound poor.

I've linked the official Audi CD changer install .pdf file from Audi, below. And yes, as Robby states below, it is prewired for a changer.

Have a look at my TT Audio (linked below) site to see what you're getting into. There are lots of pictures and info for your perusal.

You can do it yourself if you're somewhat technical, though you MAY need to have a dealer reprogram the headunit to "accept" the changer.

http://tech.vw.com/audipdf/a910007.pdf

Default You need to buy the bracket.

You can get it at Clair Parts I believe they also sell the Panasonic CD changer. Also, your local Audi dealer should be able to get both parts for you and you could have them install it or you could do it!

Default Re: Nightmare job...

I have seen this done in the Roadster and it is a horribly involved job with you having to remove most all of the facia behind the seats to get into the area where you can place te CD player. You will need the bracket as well. I have also seen that some non-CD cars have come through with harnesses that don't work with the CD player once it is in. The potential headaches are too great for my time and money, go to the dealer.

Default You should be able to (more)

You'll need to tap into the signal somehow, either at the Concert's wiring harness, or at the Bose amplifier. I suggest doing it at the back of the radio. Owners of A4s with the Concert receiver and Bose system have done it, so I would look to them for their experiences.

My first thought would be to add a nice class D amplifier (class D amps don't pull much current, they run cooler, and they are powerful with small size, or footprint) and one 10" driver of your choice. You could set it up so that it can be removed with heavy-duty connectors when you want your trunk back.

Let me know if you're serious about doing it, and I'll give it some serious thought.
