Default Was looking at Diversified Cryogenics site... can you have Stoptech's cryo'd??

I've had the pleasure of finding several cars here that have had their rotors cryo'd... and I really love the pro's of the added resistance to warping, cracking etc not to mention the added pad and rotor life!!!

I know diversified will deep freeze any rotor that they dont already have in stock or can get ahold of... and I notice they do alot of Brembo kits.

I'd like to (far far far future lol.. gotta get the TT first!) have a set of their treated TT rear rotors (slotted) with pads and stainless lines... and a Stoptech kit up front with treated rotors as well

any thoughts? could you have the rotor and hat treated as one? or would they have to be dissasembled? or can you not treat the hat since its painted?

Seems well worth the 60 bucks per rotor (or whatever their charge was) to have it done!

I'm sure you "can", but I doubt the stoptech rotors need this treatment.

Default I'll leave my Stoptech's stock and cryo the mother in law.

I don't think the Stoptech rotors need the treatment.

What improvement would one gain?

Default Just a little comment...yes they can and there is a reason to do it...

the cryo process makes any iron cast rotor better...molecular structure changes and the relating abilitiy to withstand heat is the issue. Although new to many (including myself) it is NOT new to performance driving...when we all have carbon fiber or ceramic rotors then cyro treating is out of business...but as long as there are cast iron rotors then there is a need for this process IF you are going to do more than to and fro to the local dely driving...

Default More than you want to know about Cryo

In simple terms. In the formation of pearlitic iron, during the cooling of the foundered part the metal passes thru a time temperature gradient that will form a certain amount of Austenite. Thru careful control of the cooling process the amount of Austenite will be negligible. Further cooling after passing the Austenite threshold forms primarily pearlite and some martensite. Cryogenic treatment converts austenite into martensite. Martensite is a more compact better organized structure and therefore stronger. Austensite is a face centered cubic structure and is weaker than matensite which is body center cubic structure. The iron rotor made by StopTech benefits very little from Cryo because of the negligible amount of Austenite present, but all cast iron can benefit from cryogenic treatment.
