Stupid question re. steel wheels....
But, if you do, you need to keep on top of cleaning them frequently...
Rather than have the high-performance (or for some of us, the RE040s) tires demounted and the snow tires mounted on the OEM wheels, it's easier and faster to have both sets mounted. (This also avoids damaging the tires from repeated mountings/demountings.)
The steel rims are cheap; additionally, Audi doesn't make a 17" steel wheel. It's generally good to have skinny 16" tires vs. fat 17" ones, as the skinny tires give better traction in snow. Consequently, many of us have opted for the 16" wheel/tire packages from Tire Rack or other places.
Finally, in a minimalist/Bauhaus way, the steel wheels actually look like they belong on a TT. HTH. Cheers!
