Default Will 235/45-17 tires work on 17x8 rims on the TT?

I've narrowed my wheel choices down to two: The OZ Volcanos or just keeping the stock 6-spoke coupe wheels. 18" and above are out of the question for NJ driving (we're densely populated and equally pot-holed). The recommended tire size for the 17x8 Volcanos is the standard Audi fitment of 225/45-17. In looking for a set of Sumitomo HTR ZII tires to wear with the new wheels, I find that size is out of stock, but there are plenty of 235s. Since the wheel is rather wide at 8", would the 235s be a comfortable fit or are there problems with this combination?

Thanks,

Default Keep in mind, you'll get 12 less complete rotations per mile with the higher sidewall...

I don't think that is enough to really throw of you guages but just know that.

Also, are you talking about 235/45 on the stock 6 spoke 17" wheels?

235/45-17 tires are wider than stock, not taller

Re: 235/45-17 tires are wider than stock, not taller. Exactly what I was thinking.

Default Nope, they are taller! 0.2" to be exact

The first number 235 is the width, the 45 means the sidewalls are 45% the width. Thus if the width increases with the same ratio (45) they get taller.

Default RobbyTT is right on. I'd wait for the 225/45's to come back into stock.

Try this link for an explanation. There are other links to easily compare sizes.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/size.htm</a

Default Actually, here's a question for all: There is a diff. of 0.1" in total wheel/tire diameter

between the 205/55R16 and the 225/45R17 options. Which setup is the car calibrated to?

Default Yes, you're right (re: aspect ratio) and no...

I wasn't thinking of the 235's on the stock wheels, but on the 17 x 8" Volcanoes. Thanks for the reply and reminding me about the aspect ratio. For some reason, I have a mental block when it comes to tire sizes.

Cheers,
