Default Hey is there anyone on board using 15w40 or 20w50 synthetic?? Dont understand people wanting to use

0w40 or even 5w30.. I know a few people have made posts about lower weight and lower viscosity oil, but does anybody have any facts to back up using such a light oil?? Ive always used higher weights in summer in my cars with no problem. I am planning to switch from castrol (stock) to redline 15w50.. I know theres been a lot of debate about oil on this board but dont ya just think its crazy to be putting 0w40 in motor in the summer?? I mean wasnt 0w40 formulated for arctic driving conditions.... theres no way it could take the shear and not have viscosity breakdown on a hot summer day if your into fast driving.... Anybody have any thoughts on this??

I'm no oil expert, I just go with what the Redline suggested for TT (redline 5w30)

Default JimTT has lots of posts, links, and excellent info on oils. He's da' man to listen to.

BTW: Cases of oil in the trunk help hold the rear down at high speed almost as well as beer...and no extra drag.

Default The heavy viscosity synthetics will trigger engine codes......

because when the engine is cold (and the oil thick) it will cause the lifters to stay open too long, and the computer will mis-diagnose this as a problem and trigger engine code warnings.

Lower viscosity synthetics flow MUCH better than dinosaur oil and provide MUCH better protection
