Just drove the new M3 and an '00 M5....

All I can say is the new M3 is for real. The balance in the twisties is awesome with the smooth power delivery of the 6. The rear end is a masterpiece and makes me think quattro is not neccessary in that arena, which is an opinion I have never subscribed to. Drive one it is awesome. I had to drop a deposit (looks like a year.

) Unless the new S4 is a killer, looks like I'll join the Munich crew. The M5 was impressive, but I'll still take a dropped and modded A6 in that genre. Audi interiors still make BMW's look Japanese, though. I think I'm already enough of an a**hole to live up to the BMW stereotype, so I should fit right in.

I though the M3 was a sloppy handler...IMHO

I didn't get to take it up to 9/10ths per test drive, but 6/10ths was tight enough to convince me.

My absolute dream car, but it was a bit discouraging to learn of the wait. My local dealer told me that if I gave him a Kbuck deposit today, I might see it in 12-13 months. Unfortunately, my personality demands immediate gratification.

To clarify: My '99 A4 is coming off of warranty and M3 will replace A4; never TT.

Nice write up! I was going to put down on the m3, but the TT offered a different driving experience

for me. Nice to hear an objective opinion about another car. Good luck on your M3!

Here's a C&D review of a M3 @Jerez with 19's...

It verifies the claim of understeer on the track due to the rear ends fabulous grip. The motor is really torquey and should make for a fun road car/grocery getter. On my test drive, the salesman did stain the seats at 6/10's. That's always a victory in my book.
