As was stated, to keep tranny compact on Quattro models two shafts are in contact with the ring gear; one for gears 1-4 the other for gears 5,rev & if present 6th. Pinion teeth count is different, 15 & 19; Goober can't comprehend this. Remember, all modern transmissions are constant mesh design (mating gears are always in contact with each other, torque path is determined by locking connection to spline).
