Insurance...grrr
So I'm investigating switching insurance companies and found I can save almost $600 a year. :-) Unfortunately I also found out my rate with the new company could have even been $400 cheaper if it wasn't for a speeding ticket last May. :-( It will take two more years for this to disappear from my record and it's my only ticket. Does anyone else have experience with this? Seems pretty ridiculous for your insurance to go up 40% for one lousy ticket (13 over in a 55). You think I could bargain them down???

What state do you live in?
In Taxachusetts companies don't have a choice on what they can charge you. Thats why most of them won't do business here.
Your first ticket is "free" - after that its 2 steps on your insurance for each moving violation. A minor accident is 3 steps. Everyone starts out at step 15, I think. You go down a step a year that you don't have a ticket in. Step 9 is the lowest. So, after 6 years of driving you can be at the lowest step (yay, don't have to wait until I'm 25!) You can calculate how much your insurance is by multiplying your step by some constant dollar value.
Any other state have a messed up system like this?
