Default Yeah..

First off.. Outlook is slow.. no matter what.. get a p4 1.5 GHz with 256Mb RDRAM and I am sure outlook will run nice and smooth =)

Norton does definitely slow down systems.. it is just another program that is constantly running, scanning, etc. But the trade off is not running any virus scan.. up to you.

Default Outlook is an open door into your system from a virus perspective...

The alternatives are either what you've got set up now or to use some other mailer. I use Eudora in part because I don't trust Outlook. I hear you lose some functionality, but for me it's less painful than waiting for Outlook or reformatting my disk...

Default Are we talking about OUtlook or Outlook Express?

Big difference. I have no problems with scan-on-demand for Outlook (the big one that comes with Office)

Default Whoa Nelly! One of the Outlook updates will also delete ALL

.exe's as they come into your mailbox. ANd the only way to undo it is to deinstall and reinstall OUtlook. If you installed it with Office, you have to REMOVE OFFICE then reinstall!

I am in this position now, I just don't have time to reinstall the entire Office suite right now.

Default The Intel P4 is slower than the Pentium...AMD performs MUCH better

and this comes from someone who can see Intel's largest fabs with a set of binoculars from his back yard. They made a mistake with the P4 and have actually admitted it.

Default Re: The Intel P4 is slower than the Pentium...AMD performs MUCH better

I can't trust a company who put out the K6.. I worked in the trenches building an repairing sytems for 3 years professionally and almost my whole life for fun.. we had NUMERIOUS problems with AMD.. great if the Duron or Athlon is faster than the P4....I would rather go with the chip that EVERYONE tests their software with.

Default Definitely. If you want new machine, get AMD Athlon

P4s actually are slower than P3 of lesser megahertz. Plus they run so hot they slow themselves down to 750Mhz in most applications.
