Hand Brake Usage Survey
After being harassed by my friends for overzealous use of the hand brake I did a quick survey on the UK forum to find out what normal practice was there.
How are you guys taught in the US to use the handbrake? For example:
Should you use the hand brake when stopped on a flat road in a queue at some traffic lights?
Should you use it on a hill when having to make a stop?
Remember, I'm not asking what you actually do but how you are taught to use it by instructors, etc.

If used at all, for parking only. No longer called an 'emergency brake' now hand or parking brake
I use it say...50% of the time when parking. Always leave it in gear when parking. Never used it while driving, unless stopped on a very steep hill (to keep the car from rolling) with a bozo on my rear bumpber
Been told by several mechanics to use it every time I park.
Told by others (Lexus), not to use it at all - wear out the cable (wore out 2 cables on our Lexus)

whoa, those wheels look different than ours in the US (more)
the 5 spokes we have don't have the dimpled deal going around the center. Like, where the 'V' in-between two spokes meet, it's raised, so it's not a full circle. Ours are a full circle.. neat. This shot *kind* of shows what I'm talking about, it's hard to see though:
