Default QCUSA requiring roll cage for TT roadster at driving school (more)

maybe not for everyone but for many this may be the only option for participation. The QCUSA has decided that there must be 2" of clearance between an imaginary line drawn from the roll hoop and the windshield and the occupants helmet, to particiapte in QCUSA driver schools. This according to an e-mail I recieved from PCUSA e-mail group.

I don't make this cutoff and I am sure most american males do not either. Is a roll cage an option? Seems excessive to me but that may be the only way to participate in Quattro Club school. Other roadster owners, do you meet the requirement? I am not trying to stir the pot but this seems to be overkill (poor choice of words) to a liability issue that has not ever come up.

Your thoughts?

Default It was my understanding that this is a pretty standard regulation...

Other clubs have used this 2 in. rule before and a lot of the BMW and Porsche clubs don't allow any roadsters without a full roll cage. There's a good chance of an accident at a driving school. I'd rather be safe than end up holding up a TT with my head. :-)

Default Apparently PCA uses something called the broomstick rule...

for the Boxters. Google has not provided a clear explanation of what this is.

One of the instructors at the Roebling Road event indicated that someone made a bar for the Boxster which clamped on and would provide the necessary clearance. Apparently is fit under the top as well....

Default I don't want to be upside down in anything. Seems like the liability waiver should cover QC's butt

Likely chance of injury with any rollover, less chance with full roll cage and 5 or 6 point harness, the question is where they draw the line. IMO they drew it in the wrong spot.

Has anyone else installed a rollcage? Where did you get it, etc. We plan to do driving school at some point, and need to price them, as well as figure out installation, etc.

Default Have not found any....

Appears Brey-Krause makes extension bars for the Boxster. Looks like the Boxter folks have also been changing the seay mounting brackets to lower the seats(?).
