Oil warning, temperature gauge weirdness
My 10,000 mile checkup is scheduled for 5/1, but in the meantime I figured I'd check the board to see if anyone has seen this problem.
For the last six weeks or so, my low oil warning light has been coming on occasionally. I've checked the oil several times and everything seems fine (I'm at about 10,300 miles). In the last two weeks, it's come on even more frequently, sometimes as often as every five minutes. I've also begun to notice that the temperature gauge has been acting up along with the oil light. For the most part, my temp. gauge is at the lowest setting ("C"). However, just before the oil light comes on, it begins to move up to the halfway setting. Usually a few minutes after the oil light comes on, the temp. drops back down to "C" very quickly. I'm beginning to wonder if it isn't the thermometer that is screwy, causing the oil warning to come on. Anyone have any thoughts?

I got the same condition with the temp gauge but I have never seen the oil warning. I start the car(cold) and the temp gauge comes up slowly to normal. After maybe 10-15 minutes it suddenly drops to C then after a while it comes back to normal. I pulled up the engine temp digital display on the climate control readout window and the motion of the gauge follows the temps displayed there. When the gauge drops to C the temp digital display goes down also. I am at 9,500 miles 180TTQ 2000.

Haven't had this one...
my temp gauge usually runs at dead center, once warm (although it will come down a bit with the heater on...mormal function). But here's a question: why did my '96 A4 come with an oil temp gauge, but my "sports" car didn't? I'm no fan of idiot lights.
On the oil topic, do TTs come with synthetic oil from the factory? If not, I'm switching over. Any suggestions?
