Default my $0.02 on the topic of "rice-boys"

I hope this comes across as constructive and non-attacking. With all the discussion of TT modifications, which I do enjoy reading, I have a hard time understanding the common posts linking sites who are run by people who seemingly have nothing better to do than target people who drive modified Japanese cars and label them as "rice-boys." I don't think the general claim that these individuals "take cars that are meant to go slow and tune them to look like they go fast" is entirely accurate. Honda has been a part of F1 racing for some time and much of the technology derived from racing makes it into their cars. While I agree that many people add body kits and other accessories that seem excessive, similarly excessive body kits exist for German cars, including the TT. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and has preferences, but it seems like the car's country of origin has taken on too large a role in determining the "merit" of a modification.

I hope to buy a TT in a year or so and will enjoy making a few modifications to it. But I feel that the modifications that I have made and plan to add to my Acura Integra are just as "worthy" and don't deserve a negative stereotype.

Thanks for listening,
Phil

Small difference is that Honda doesn't race Civics in the F1, but Audi/ABT races TT's in the DTM.

Default I , too was a riceboy once with my MR-2.....

Made to LOOK faster...uh.. well actually. The MR-2 was a pretty nice N sporty car. But I digress.. I did my fair share of looks fast, doesn't go any faster mods. But since then, I've owned 2 new BMW's, an Explorer, and now my TTC

Its all about maturity. If you go down to the mall you'll see kids with baggy jeans & haircuts that border on absurd. But they too will grow out of it. Live & let live... and its o.k to snicker a little bit!

Default I don't know much about the different racing leages (what is DTM?) but...

I've read about Integras that are raced in SCCA by Comptech and by Realtime Racing in the Speedvision World Challenge.

I don't know much about Comptech. Are they a Honda/Acura factory sponsored entity?

Default Their parts are sold through some Acura dealerships...

but I don't know the extent of the relationship. They seem to only race Acuras though. I think Mugen is the closest thing Acura has to BMW's M or Mercedes' AMG, but it is still an independent company; it run by the son of the founder of Honda.

Sorry, Jack, the DTM TT's are probably not related to our TT's beyond the shape of some body panels.

Default Rice rockets, some are made to look fast and some..

come from the factory very fast indeed! The Nissan Skyline GTR, Mazda RX7 (last series), Subaru WRX Sti and Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VII to name a few, will all eat Audi TT 225s straight off the showroom floor. They are all also descendents of a long line of successful racing cars and still win international and club events. This is more than I can say for my TT. What's wrong with a young person idolizing these cars and trying to make their lesser car look faster. Sure some of them are way over the top but I've seen a few pictures posted here of after market spoilers and wheels for the TT that would qualify as "rice".

No, you're right. Some Jap. cars are killer, while some are not tastefully modded.
