Default Question about the GIAC chip...

I spoke to AWE today about the chip I won in the raffle. I was told I could get the option where they set up the ECU to accept either the GIAC or the stock chip so when making dealer visits I can swap it back.

Has anyone done this? Is it hard to swap? Does the ECU need to be removed to swap it?

TIA

Wendy

Default I think he is referring to a socketed install, Wendy. It'll save you money

on a stock spare ECU to go to the dealer with. Because you probably don't want your car serviced with a chip in it.

It's just a socket on the ECU that accepts the GIAC chip and !pop! the stock chip, literally.

COngratulations. What a great prize.

Default So this seems to be the best way to go then..

The EMCS (or was it ECMS) SW sounds great with valet mode etc. Don't get me wrong I used to have a 350hp Cosworth so I'm all for chipping. My only concern was lets say the Turbo went, why, because it just did, one of those just went things.

Now if you're chipped and this happens your down $ks to fix it. So I'm going to check out this socket option

Thanks all
just my $.02c

Default Some of us are having this done on saturday...

They solder an adapter into your ecu which accepts both chips. ecu has to come out to swap and if they for any reason open your ecu, they will see the adapter. My suggestion since you got the chip for free, buy an extra ecu. Doug

Default I was one of the people in the group buy and had the chip...

installed this past saturday as PES. BTW, great guys... The put in the socket and the chip. They showed me how to remove the chip and replace the stock back in.. Very simple. And the car goes muuuuch faster now.
