TT Wheel Revelation
I've been wondering whether steel wheels from the New Beetle (16") would clear TT brakes. Though I don't own a TT, we've got a set of TT brakes ready to go on VWvortex's Project Golf 1.8T, and the NB steel wheels were at the top of the winter wheel list due to their inexpensive nature and lack of width.
I had spoken to 1552 Design, and Brad Beardow suggested to me that there might be probs with the install, even thought the wheels were 16s.
Well, all good things must come to an end, and today I said goodbye to our Nimbus 225 TTR that Audi was gracious enough to let me borrow for the FW even this past weekend.
Before I let the car go though, I did pull off one of the front wheels and mount the NB wheel. Granted, I had no rubber, so I couldn't install the set, but I did put the wheel on and pop the car out of gear to see if it would spin without rubbing, and I can tell you it did NOT rub.
So, sure, a TT will look goofy with some 16" Audi hubcaps (is there such a thing?), or you can paint the NB steel wheels silver and go for that 550 Spyder look.
