a funny 528i thing happened on the way to FW . . . . . long, possibly entertaining
I drive over Friday morning, they bleed, feels the same . . . braking power is there, if a little delayed, so I figure I'm goin' for it. Me & the missus get about an hour away when there's this ticking noise in the front left. Call dealer, service says maybe it's the front brake dust shields. Try twice to puch them away from rotors, noise worsens. And then . . ***!!! the gods smile upon us !!!*** We're 2 minutes down the road from YBH Audi, and we get there 5 minutes before they're ready to close. They are terrific, hoist car and we find it's more than dust shields . . .ugh . . . and they can rotate (read: wobble . . . !) the wheel 10-15 degrees either way. My stomach sinks. Mechanic says inside CV joint nut is loose, thinks someone didn't tighten it during the clutch job - probably trashed the bearing. Can tighten the assembly now though, so we test it and it makes a sound like a dirigidoo . . Parts is closed, don't know if they have a bearing They say, go home now, and carefully. :-(
Soooooo, many dark moments, and as we drove home, I realized that we have this other really great car, and if we went anyway I'd still get to meet everyone, see all the cars (I know what ours looks like . . ! ), see the houses and drive the beautiful roads, so I made the signs, transferred everything into the bimmer (hey, we were already packed . . . . ), and headed out. We got into our room at Nemacolin at 3am. It was worth it all to drive into the TT grove at Kentuck **** . . . *sob*
Hey, thanks to Doug Clayton for including us his photos. It was a blast. Many thanks to Peter & Bob for this weekend. Oh, and Amulett, I am so sorry and angry to hear about this. Jeez what's with Audi's mechanics . . . !?
