Default Fallingwater West: Another Call for a 2001 West Coast TT Event

Okay, okay, I'll admit it; I'm jealous. And I'm jealous in a way I never thought I would be. I wish I'd gone to Fallingwater. And, of course, after seeing the pictures from this past weekend, I can't get the idea of a West Coast event out of my mind.

Various members have batted around the idea, and Hank's post from a few days ago ("West Coast TT Event") elicited 72 responses, so I'm obviously not taking credit for this. But if we're going to do it this year, we need to get organized. And so, call me nuts, but if no one else has already done so, I'm going to volunteer to do the planning.

After reading Peter's email on his return, it's obvious that I can't do this alone, but to get the discussion going, here's what we need to do to get started:

1) scout and select a location
2) set a date
3) confirm hotel/lodging availability
4) organize an event (such as the tour of Fallingwater) and meals
5) as with Fallingwater, encourage Canadian (and Mexican) Forum members to attend
6) and everything else

But first, let's set a goal: 180 TTs.

180 denim blue, brilliant black, desert green, amulet red, lake silver, aviator grey, and raven black Audi TT coupes and roadsters . . . and all in one place. Can you imagine it? Now this isn't meant to upstage Fallingwater; how can we upstage the first US event? But themes are important, and if California has the highest concentration of TTs in the country then it shouldn't be hard to pull this off.

Once again, though, we need to get started now if 1) we want to do this in 2001, and 2) if we want the event to be as well organized as Fallingwater.

From Hank's post, it seems that Napa and Monterey received the most votes. As many Californians know, September and October are the warmest and clearest months of the year. I'd also like to throw in Mendocino, too. (I can see it now . . . 180 TTs threading up Highway 1. Fantastic.)

By the end of the week, though, we need to narrow it down to one or two locations and begin to work on a date. And, at the same time, we need to make sure that our West Coast site can actually accommodate a large gathering.

So, who's game?

Napa and Monterey are very "touristy". How about Sonoma?

True. I think Monterey is worse of the two, in regards to "high tourism" biz/traffic.

Default i had suggested 17 mile drive, but.....

if the majority wants to do the wine country, there is a GREAT drive from highway 29 at oakville over the
maountains to sanoma via the oakville grade.

maybe a group mudbath at calistoga

Default Did 17 mile drive before in a caravan...not recommended

There is no way you could set-up and easily do a 180 car caravan through 17 mile drive....we had trouble staying together in that section with only 30 cars.

Good luck.
