Default TT Roadster Quality

Drive your TT Roadster all year? I do and I live in Michigan and I've had all sorts of problems with my TT Roadster. So far, the 02 sensor got replaced, the glove box flies open everytime I hit a bump in the road, the TT emblem on the rear is coming apart, the windscreen when raised gets grease from inside on it and just recently got caught on some weather stripping inside and ripped it all to pieces. Also, the paint has many imperfections, looks like hair got painted over. I'm totally unimpressed. Has anyone had any of these problems???

Default A few...

My TTR is a daily driver, and I just came through the worst winter here in Minnesota, in a long time.

My glove box handle/lid broke day 2 of ownership. Replaced under warranty.
Windscreen was a complaint I heard last summer. It's a smear on the glass from some internal excess grease, etc. I had it a few times, cleaned it off, it's gone.

My front end took a beating from the winter, but my paint over all has been great.
I would make friends with your dealer, and try to get these items atteneded to.

It sounds like you have an abnormal amount of problems that are easy to fix, however.
Just a pain to deal with them, I know.

Default Any Audi owner's with more than 100,000 miles?

Just curious. I am most likely going to purchase a 180TT coupe or an S4this fall, when I trade in my IS300, however I am curious to know what everyone's reliability record has been with your Audi?

I have never owned an Audi, mostly Japanese sedan's and a few oldsmobiles, and chryslers, back in the day. Most domestic brands I have owned, (this was in the 80's) never made it past 75,000 miles, even with the maintenance schedule, religiously followed.

My last two imports, a 92 maxima and a 91 accord have all surpassed 100,000 miles without any major repairs. The 92 maxima I sold about a year ago, had 189,000 miles on the odometer. Other than a waterpump, and normal wear and tear items, i.e. brakepads, tires, oil change, etc., nothing broke on it and I drive the hell out of these vehicles (one thing that did break at 132,000 miles were the frame mounting points for my rear sway bar (metal fatigue from hard cornering)which I had a local body shop fix. I currently still have the 91 accord and it is at 129,000 miles and no problems.

Last Thanksgiving, I purchased a 01 IS300, which in the past five months I have put on 15,000 miles. It has been one of the most unreliable vehicles I have ever had. All sorts of problems you would never expect from a premium brand. 20/20 hindsight, it really is turning out to be a glorified civic with the reliability of a neon.

I am averaging about 30,000 miles a year and usually do not sell my vehicles, until pretty much are past the 150,000 mile mark.

Thus the question is, audi as a brand, and more specifically, the TT and S4, if I purchase one, will it make it to 150,000 miles with no major repairs? And if major repairs, how much are we talking? Thanks.

Default curious re: the glovebox handle...

any reason to believe the replacement is any better than the
original? or are you just avoiding future troubles by treating it
like fine china?

Default You got that right. I jammed the owners manual in wrong the first time, and broke the flimsy plastic

button that holds the metal latch. *that* is what broke. They are about an 1/8" dia, and 1/8" high. That what holds the latch on to the glove box door.
Poor over-all design. Snapped one off clean.
My dealer said it was a known problem on other Audi's. He just sighed, and ordered a new door.
Yes, I am treating it gently now, as I think the door prise is like $400.

Mechanically, I haven't had any problems, but I only have 11,500 on the car. Seems like alot of miles for a 2001, but I got my car May 27th 2000.

Default Re: other problems

I've also noticed that when you fully engage the clutch, meaning til it hits the floor, I have problems getting it into gear, if I raise the pedal up slightly it clicks into place. That can't be right!!! I've had 5 people drive the car and everyone of them experienced problems shifting from 1st to second, they grind the gears. I've noticed around 3700 RPMs when I try to shift into 2nd, it locks me out.

Another minor thing, the button for the heated seats sometimes won't go back to it's flush position. DO I HAVE A LEMON OR WHAT????!!!!

Default Starting with the simple things: have your carpets moved under the clutch pedal?

IF you go all the way to the floor and still can't get 100% release of the gearbox, then at least it is a clutch adjustment and at most a new clutch. Betcha it's the former.

It's funny, because all the way to the floor it has trouble, but lift up slightly on the clutch the gear clicks into place.
