Default Did I do a bad thing?

I was so concerned about my new child that I agreed to the 'clear bra' that they put on the car for 999.00. Is the dealer installed version good? Is it really worth the G.

Default Clear Bras are good, but you're paying the typical dealer mark up here.

A pre-cut kit usually runs about $500 installed. A custom front end wrap (no visible seams) usually runs in the neighborhood of $1,000. Of course, not many places do the custom job.

On the other hand, how much is it worth to you to not have ANY chips when the clear bra is installed? I didn't make it to my clear bra install unscathed, as I got my first paint chip about 48 hours after I drove off the lot.

That sounds steep to me. A lot depends on the installer. Also, do you know which kit they're using?

Default Depends who made the kit...

its probably the same 3M film as all the clear bra type kits. The difference then is how well it covers, and if it includes headlight protection. My full StonGard kit, with headlight kit, was almost $1000 installed.

Default Yes! Bad, bad, bad. Twenty lashes with a wet noodle and a week in a Kia Sephia.

NOT!

It depends on the installer and the quality of the install, but I've been happy with my XPel since it went on -- and I planned it before I bought the car. Lots of people have had problems with paint chips; if your clear bra install was good (and it likely was) you did fine. HTH. Cheers!

P.S. Don't forget to get a receipt that spells out what was installed and shows kit cost and install cost for your insurance company--if (God forbid) your baby ever gets in an accident, they'll pay for the new bra & install. The key is to document the cost and labor fees so the insurance adjuster can't lowball you.

Default well...

StonGard's popular full kit and headlight kit will run you about $600... just for the kit. Installation charges vary, and I paid $400. so $1K out the door. I'm not saying I got the best kit or the best deal, but $500 installed sounds cheap to me. It depends on the kit and how well it covers and protects, of course.

Default $500 w/install? On a TT or an S4?

Can't say I know what a good S4 job will cost, but the TT kit is not a simple install.

Again, much depends on who's doing the install, but if it's a quality job on a TT, $500 is a steal for a full front end. Cheers!

Well, probably not in the SF Bay Area. I'm just going off memory of some of the posts I've seen for install of the pre-cut kits, but the $500 price is probably some place in Ohio. But I don't consider those kits a "full front end" install since they don't protect the whole hood or the fenders.

I'm actually getting a custom (not a pre-cut kit) full front end wrap (full front, full hood, full front fenders, mirrors and headlights) for my S4 this Saturday. These guys are flying out from Utah to the SF Bay Area for a group buy. The clear bra and install will run just over $1,000.

Make that a Daewoo Lanos. Have you seen these? New smallest car in America.

Default Sounds like a good deal on the custom kit.

FWIW --

Go for it! Give us some feedback in a few months on the hood piece--I've been curious to see if it'll stand up to the repeated heating from the turbo (or, in your case, turbos). Don't know if that'll make any difference, but I've often thought of going for the full hood. Cheers!
