Default OT for you home theater people - DCM speakers?

Ok, I know this is a TT forum, but I also know I've seen more than a few posts about home theater stuff here. :P

So anyways, I'm wanting to get some home theater stuff on a budget, and I was introduced to a set of DCM speakers which fit nicely into my budget. Now, I've never heard of these, so I'm just wondering what the home theater buffs think of them. I know there's better stuff out there, but this set is $1050 for all 6 speakers. Any horror stories about them? Praises?

The speakers I'm looking at in particular are the DCM12s for fronts, DCM6s for rears, DCM6C for center, and the SW10 for the subwoofer. Sound like a decent deal for $1050?

Once again, sorry about the OT stuff, but this is the only place I can think of where I think I can get a straight answer about this.

Default Never heard these but also consider what you might power them with

The power supply/pre amp plays a major role in sound experience IMHO.

Default If you like what they sound like buy them...

I have a pair of bookshelves by them and love them. My father has a set of towers they produced in the early 90's and he loves them (I do too). I think DCM makes good products, but they have a very small product line. I do not know much about the company as of late, but back in the early 90's I was very impressed with their build quality and soundstage. Their timewindow series had a great 3D-soundstage produced off stereo recordings.

Default Go to the hardware forum on Hometheaterforum and search, then ask.

If nobody there has ever heard of this brand, then skip 'em because they don't exist!

Default Used to have them, they were a little to dull for me, but it's a matter of personal preference...

I sold custom audio/video for over 3 years, and one of the main things I learned is that quality is better than quantity. Speakers are a matter of personal preference, so you should really go with what you like the sound of, but I can tell you that the size of the speaker is very unimportant when it comes to quality of sound. I've seen speakers that are very small sound incredible, (not Bose), as well as large speakers that were horrible. Here are a few good speaker manufacturers:

Boston Acoustics, Klipsch, Mirage, and Polk Audio

There are over 400 speaker manufacturers around the world, so I would advise you to avoid "Circuit Silly" or "Best Try", and stick to companies that have better product, ie. Tweeter, The Good Guys, etc.

GOOD LUCK!<ul><li><a href="http://freeweb.pdq.net/dangeruss/theater.htm">My Home Theater</a></li></ul>

I would at least consider getting a better center channel speaker than a DCM 6. Considering roughly 70% of the surround program is dedicated to the center channel, you WILL notice a difference. This is especially true if you intend to use to the system for TV viewing as well.

Personally, I think you can do a little better for $1050. Consider JBL Northridge Series. I have a pair of N26s for a remote room, and they seem to offer pretty good bang for the buck.

All else fails, check out audioreview.com for specific details, its a great resource:

Good Luck
