Default Doesn't Anyone On This Forum Ever Measure Their Multitude Of Ehancements At The Strip?

I notice that unlike the previous forum I was a member of, (the SVT Lightning forum) no one here seems to post their 1/4 mile time (or kills for that matter) as part of their signature. In that so many members spend money on performance enhancements, is no one curious enough to see what these enhancements have truly accomplished? I don't believe I have seen one 1/4 time published for one of these machines. As for kills, I would not expect to see too many of those. It would not exactly be a rush to blow a Miatas doors off!

Default From my perspective, it's not about numbers and it's certainly not about "kills"...

...It's about my personal driving pleasure. I started with the car because it's awesome to look at and relaitvely affordable. I started modifying it because the stock car has obvious weaknesses that become aparent when you've driven it for a while. A good analogy for me, since I'm also into audio, is the tweaks an audiophile makes when tuning their audio system. It's all about the personal pleasure I derive from the "system" when I interact with it.

That said, I may take it to an occasional track event, but nothing where numbers are measured. I'm way more interested in auto-x and performance driving seminars than I am in off-the-line driving.

Based on what I know of others here, I'd be surprised if many others felt differently. I could, of course, be wrong.

Default Totally agree. For me, it's an auto enthusiast's car, not a crotch rocket.

Good thing, right!!! LOL

Default Very well spoken... couldn't agree more... (m)..

My past cars have been great cars for taking to the track and showing off their abilities, or limits for that matter. I've modified many cars before, and I must agree, it isnt about just the numbers - if it were, there are plenty of better cars to own.

Examples: Had a '98 Dodge Neon that had a full cage and a turbo, and that car ran 13.99 quarter mile - but was more fun to put on a track and just run regardless of numbers.... just got rid of a '99 Honda Civic Si with a supercharger, limited slip, etc.. ran 14.275 in quarter, had a "booming system" in it, etc... but once again, wasnt as nice looking as the TT, but still very fun to drive.. also had a C5 Corvette - great car, fast and furious - but couldnt handle the snow in Cleveland, Ohio..

What it boils down to, IMHO, is that you want to maixmize your driving pleasure.. and that shouldn't require "quarter mile time slips" or other "numbers" to substantiate... you just drive, and smile.. and that is how it goes... all of my cars have been fun to drive, and enjoyed in some fashion - because of my "seat of the pants" fun it was - not because of how fast it was in the quarter... i used to hate when people asked me "how fast it is in the quarter" just because that, to me, didnt caputre the full aura of the car..

Oh well... that is how it goes....
Shaka!

BTW, if that's all you're interested in, I have an SLK32 I'll be selling mid-July. (0-60 in 4.9)

I certainly understand that perspective, and can also relate to the audio analogy in that I have invested about 25 kbucks in my sound system!

I delight in the twisties also, but this car has more oversteer than any car I have ever driven.
