Interior Lights Mystery Problem #71
Went down to the garage this morning and discovered my overhead lights were on for no reason. Okay. What's going on here? Is there a quick fix? It did it before but I can't recall how I solved it.

I had a similar problem. My dome light would come on out of the blue and...
the alarm would misbehave, it wouldn't make the chirping sound and the door LED wouldn't flash. Anyway the problem got really bad over time. My dealer eventually diagnosed the problem to chaffed wiring in the driver's side door that would short intermittently with the road vibration. So you might ask your dealer to look into it.

If your interior lights won't turn off try to lock/unlock the doors with the
central button. If the problem is the same as mine, your central locking system will not let you lock/unlock the doors. I am hoping that my dealer will fix this one. Some say it is a problem with the ignition module.

And suddenly the problem is gone. It wouldn't allow me to engage the locking system from the central lock. I then got out, closed the door, reached in and pressed the central locking switch and the system engaged. The light went off. Weird.The car didn't move an inch during this whole episode.

Is this different from the lock/light problem many of us have had fixed?
Remember, if you can duplicate this sequence:
1) Get into car
2) Lock doors using button on console
3) Start car
4) Interior lights now do not work, and you cannot use the console button to unlock the doors
You have the lock/light bug and the fix is for your dealer to add/fix a bad/missing ground on the central locking system. There is an Audi Techline bulletin on this, and mine was fixed before taking delivery last September, so the fix has been around for at least seven months now...
