Need some chip advice (serious questions inside)
Now, before anyone says anything to me about how great the MTM chip is... I think it is great. I just think that the combination, mainly because of the UUC exhaust has my engine running rich.
So, I have a couple of choices.
1. switch to an MTM-style exhaust (this has to be the most expensive option)
2. switch back to the stock exhaust (I don't think so)
3. switch back to stock chip (the car is still pretty awesome with just the UUC exhaust, but probably runs rich this way too)
4. switch to a different chip (hmm...yes, this is where I'm going with this)
So, as you guessed, I'm probably going to go down the road to option 4.
Here's the plan. I'm going to get my MTM ECU switched to GIAC and try it out. A the most, this is a waste of $495, which I see as a lot of money, but if I'm not being kind to my engine I need to do something.
Why GIAC? Well, they will do custom programs. Do I need a custom program? I don't know. I'll start out with the standard program and try it out for awhile. I'll pull out my ross-tech tool and do some logging.
Then after a period of time I'll make the decision which chip I will keep and sell the other to someone who doesn't have a UUC exhaust. The chip would be great for anyone else -- I wouldn't sell it otherwise.
So, now to the advice I need...
How do I do a comparison?
Based on my dyno day runs, I know my engine is running rich. Based on the soot on my exhaust tips, I know my engine is running rich. Can I make this any more quantifiable?
What data blocks should I track on VAG-COM in order to compare the two chips?
As you can see, I'm looking for something more than a soot-meter and a butt dyno.
After I get all the data logged on the MTM I'll drive to GIAC and switch to their chip. Then I'll do the same logging for my comparison.

So, am I crazy? Does this make sense?
Thanks in advance!
PS - I really want to keep this on track if possible... if someone wants to debate the merits of the MTM over the GIAC (or any other chip for that matter) please go to a different thread
Block 120 will give you torque numbers which can be loosley used to calculate HP.
Block 204 will give you boost data (manifold, commanded, and turbo).
I'm not sure the numbers generated are perfect as absolutes, but they would certainly provide value in assessing before/after mod differnences.
I'm wondering if there are other indicators as well that I might want to compare. Isn't a sign of running rich the temp of the air exiting the system? Cooler being better?
Am I on the right track? I know timing is important as well, but I don't know if that is applicable to my question. Is it?

1) Is that IIRC you guys had just a sniffer up your tailpipe (no jokes here please) and that is not an accurate read. You must have a *bung* (more Beavis jokes) welded into the exhaust higher up the stream, I would be concerned by that first...
2)What kind of soot are you getting? Are you getting heavy thick soot or just your tailpipes turn blk and oxidized.
Sorry if these things are VERY OBVIOUS assessments but I didn't want you to panic either.
Does it feel like it runs great other wise?
