bike rack for Roadster
I only know of one guy who has, using a Sari Bones trunk-mounted rack.
Will a trunk-mounted rack scratch my paint?
Several people have discussed trailer hitches, but I don't know of anyone who has tried. Can you get a hitch on a TT? Will it look glaringly ugly?
I wish I had the option of carrying my bike in a different car, but I spent all my money on this one! (and I'm glad, too!)
Thanks
Justin
Meanwhile, in the interests of Science, I got a Saris Bones rack anyway.
Haven't had a chance to install it properly yet, but a quick test fit looks like it should work ok. I will post pictures and details when I get a chance to do it properly, probably not for another week or so, though.
Notes: some of the complaints about this and other trunk racks seem to be related to improper installation, so make sure the thing is mounted securely, make sure cinch straps are knotted so they can't slip loose, etc.
If you clean the surfaces before putting on the rack, that should decrease the changes of paint damage, but of course, anything resting on the paint has the potential to cause problems, esp. if it is loose and can vibrate.
I intend to limit my use as much as possible (since we also have a TTC with a roof rack :-) but if the TTR is going by itself, trunk rack seems the only solution.
Re: hitches - so far, no standard hitch mounts available.
And, if you look under the back of the car, you'll see why.
I wouldn't hold out a lot of hope in this area, although I'd really like a hitch too.
Good luck...
I got the FAPA rack from Stratmos.. (Painted the mounts silver to match the car). Don't know if the offer bike mount but they do have ski and I think surfboard mount. Worth a look. I use mine for gear and only mount it when I need it. Works good and is very solid when installed properly.
