Synthetic Oil Detection...

Is there any way to detect for synthetic vs. conventional oil type by sampling from the end of the dip stick? For various reasons, I'm suspicious of the services rendered from a dealer's service shop.

I know a guy who uses nothing but Redline just for this reason.

Practically/economically, probably not...

1)Stick around and watch 'em pour it in.
2)Have them return your empty Mobil 1 containers; not a sure fire check.
3)Find a dealer/tech you trust. Yeah, right.
