Techie tidbit: VW now using titanium rear suspension springs!
Other than a weight reduction, titanium's low shear modulus results in a shorter spring with fewer coils than a steel spring. How about that for lowering/adjustable springs for TT rear?

Metals get weaker and weaker the more load cycles that they endure. Steels are special in that there is a magnitude of loading (the endurance limit) that is so low, that they will never fail. Keep the loading below this limit and avoid fatigue failures. Aluminum, for one, does not have this limit and will fail eventually, no matter how low the loads are.
Maybe I just paid too much attention in Engineering school...
